Christmas mood in full swing in Aveley

Aveley Village Community Forum has started the 2011 Christmas Celebrations in a big way.

CROWDS of people turned up to see the lights turned on and joining in singing of Christmas Carols led by pupils of the Aveley Primary School. This was followed by Hot Chocolate & Mince Pies in the Aveley Youth & Community Centre.

The Forum would like to extend its thanks to the local businesses who donated to the cost of the lights.

Without their support there would have been no lights for the first time in many years.

The Aveley Community Centre also held their first Christmas Dinner. This proved to be so popular we had to move to the Aveley Public Hall to hold everyone.

85 local residents joined together to celebrate with a traditional Christmas menu. Their volunteer chef, John Livermore from the Whitmore Arms, Orsett, brought a team from work and some friends to cook and serve a most magnificent meal.

Revellers were also entertained at table by Paul Clancy, a local magician, who managed to confound all of them.

The regular High Tea will be back at the Aveley Youth & Community Centre on Thursday 5th January.

The Forum would like to thank all those who gave their time to make this event so successful including the Aveley Public Hall who made us so welcome and took care of most of the washing up!

On a final note Aveley Village Community Forum is holding its AGM on Tuesday 20th December at 7.30 in the Aveley Youth & Community Centre.

The meeting is open to anyone who would like to see what they do.
