Maggie Whitbread chairperson, addressed a well attended monthly meeting of Thurrock branch of U3A at the Civic Hall, Blackshots, Grays.
This was the final meeting of the year. The meeting on January 25th. 2012 at the same venue to incorporate the 11th. AGM.
She thanked the committee, the group leaders and volunteers, praising them for achieving a most vibrant year’s work.
She reported that over 180 members enjoyed a Christmas lunch at The Orsett Hall. 48 members also enjoyed a Dickensian 5 day break at Thornbury Hall, Nottinghamshire.
During an unusually mild Indian Summer. enabling members to enjoy the entertainment and group games to the full.
Day trips, visiting Chesterfield, Stamford, Newark and Lincoln, were an additional attraction.
There is a visit to see The Nutcracker ballet before Christmas.
The speaker was Richard Gibbons, who spoke with considerable insight on the Cuban Missile Crisis and its political implications.
