Thurrock Young citizen award winner opens new health village at Lakeside

Lloydspharmacy officially opened the new Health Village from Lloydspharmacy – an innovative concept in health and wellbeing at the Lakeside Retail Park.

Guest of honour, Young Citizen of Thurrock Civic Award 2011 recipient, Kayleigh Merchant, joined Lloydspharmacy managing director, Tony Page to officially declare the store open.

Health Village from Lloydspharmacy is the UK’s first retail health centre that offers a wide range of healthcare products and services under one roof. As well as traditional pharmacy services and health and beauty products, Health Village from Lloydspharmacy includes independent living aids from Betterlife, physiotherapy and sports injury clinics from Connect Physical Health, chiropody services from Shuropody, opticians Vision Express, audiology services from Hidden Hearing and clinical skincare treatments from Sk:N. The Thurrock store also includes a private dentist – DentistryForYou, and an exclusive day spa which stocks the Organic Pharmacy range.

17 year-old Kayleigh has been a young carer for most of her life, first caring for her mum who passed away in 2008 from cancer and now she cares for her dad who lives with various illnesses such as Crohns disease, left kidney failure, diabetes and recovering from legionnaires’ disease.   Kayleigh has been involved in the Thurrock Young Carers project for several years and has applied to become a volunteer to help out with other young carers.

Kayleigh said: “I was really pleased to be invited to the launch of Health Village. I didn’t know what to imagine from a ‘Health Village’ but as soon as I walked through the doors and saw the different brands working together, as well as helpful staff to advise local residents with their healthcare needs, the idea seemed to work perfectly. Being a carer, it can be difficult finding the time to run errands and look after my own health and wellbeing, as keeping control of dad’s health, so having everything in one place is really handy.”

Guests attending the grand opening took home goodie bags packed full of beauty samples and advice on staying healthy. Some shoppers also walked away with prizes won in the free prize draw.

Commenting on the launch, Vince Herrera-Leon, general manager of Health Village from Lloydspharmacy Thurrock, said: “The Health Village is a pilot concept so we’re really interested to hear people’s feedback. Everyone I’ve spoken to so far thinks having a range of healthcare services under one roof is a great idea and pleased with the products and services we’re offering.

“As well as our professional healthcare services, we have many premium beauty lines in-store including L’Occitane, Korres, Caudalie and Eucerin; not forgetting a Coffee Republic onsite for customers to relax in which is already proving to be popular with shoppers. The team and I very much look forward to welcoming customers into the store – our community of experts can’t wait to help Thurrock residents stay healthy and feel great!”

Customers can also access Lloydspharmacy’s ground-breaking Online Doctor GP video consultation service, and a pharmacy healthcare team will be onsite offering prescription dispensing as well as a range of clinical health checks.

Health Village from Lloydspharmacy is located at the Lakeside Retail Park in Thurrock, Essex and is open from 9am – 9pm Monday to Saturday, and 11am – 5pm on Sunday. For more information, visit www.healthvillage.co.uk
