2011: Year in Review: October

The Civic Awards was a great evening and was a great tribute to the real heroes in the borough.

The fight was on to save a number of police stations in the borough. You had the feeling that the Stanford East and Corringham Town ward at next May’s local election will be all about the police station.

Prince Phillip gave the royal seal of approval as he visited DP World.

There was horror as there was an attempted car-jacking whilst a baby was on board in Belhus Park.

You could sense that the number of acquisitive crimes were going up and up. Although when you go to court and see an accused plead guilty to fare dodging to the tune of £7k and have all but £500 wiped off then…….

Lakeside celebrated its 21st birthday and duly announced an £180 million expansion.

Stuart Thurgood made a short comeback for Grays Ath before moving off to Thurrock. It didn’t go down well.

The busiest man in the borough was Mr Mayor, cllr Charlie Curtis. He turned up everywhere.

Recession blues as a much trumpeted housing developments behind Bannatynes goes bust.

We interviewed junior international athlete, Hayley McLean who had a great season.

TOWIE star, Kirk Norcross helped out at the Seabrooke Rise clean up day.

Another day, another royal as the Duchess of Cornwall flew in to visit Sericc.

The M25 celebrated its silver jubilee.
