2011 Year in review: September


And then there was Hampergate! Labour questioned the whereabouts of three hampers donated to them by a Tilbury church. Labour questioned whether cllr Joy Redsell had tampered with the hamper. After an investigation, it all appeared to be a misunderstanding.

Proposed electoral boundary changes were published and could see Orsett go to Brentwood and Ongar.

The Thurrock Council “Let’s Talk” roadshow went to Orsett but there was a very poor turnout. The same happened in Chafford. You can only try.

A bin strike was averted as the council and union came to an agreement.


The Orsett Show was rocked by a mystery shooting. On the night before the show, a barman in the beer tent was shot in the leg. The mystery gunman was never traced.


The Orsett Show enjoyed fine weather and was a huge success.

The case of severely injured soldier, Alex Stringer hit the national headlines when it was discovered that wheelchair-bound Alex was living in a high rise flat in Chadwell St Mary.

In the end, Alex moved to Canvey Island.

The Aveley community forum celebrated ten years!

And there were packed meetings in Grays as residents were concerned that the fourteen-strong Price “family from hell” were moving in.


There were high hopes for Thurrock rugby club as they were tipped for promotion. They made an impressive start and haven’t looked back.
