CLLR John Kent is calling on local communities to join in the celebrations for 2012.
The Leader of Thurrock Council made his call to action following last week’s announcement that the Olympic Flame Relay is coming to town on 6 July 2012.
He said: “2012 is going to be start of our decade of delivery in so many ways and we want local people and local communities to lead the way.
“A month before the Olympic Flame comes to Thurrock, we will all be celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee — 60 years on the throne and as head of state is really something to recognise.
“So I am asking everyone who is considering organising a party or any type of celebration to get in touch with the council.
“I don’t want the council to interfere, but of we can provide help and advice that would be great … and the sooner the better.”
Cllr Kent added: “Of course the council is already organising some celebration events through the spring and summer months
“I want Thurrock to see 2012 as a year of celebrations, but I would really like to see it led by the local communities at a local level and for local people.
“To do that, we need to co-ordinate, we need to liaise and more to the point, we need to talk.”
