Ryman Div One North
Tilbury 2 v 1 Enfield Town
WHEN Paul Vaughan took over at Tilbury in 2010, most people thought that he was out of his depth. The first ambition last season was to ensure they were not relegated to the Essex Senior League. Paul managed that with some fine victories on the way.
This season saw them go top after a few games and again most predicted that the Dockers would slowly slip down the league and they did drift back towards the middle.
But since October, the Dockers have slowly and steadily improved with yesterdays 2-1 victory against league leaders Enfield being one of their best performances.
True, there were celebrations by players and fans alike but it was measured and all acknowledged that there is a long way to go.
Alex read opened the scoring on the 24th minute. Matata equalised three minutes later. But the Dockers dominated the second half and it was only right and fitting that Joe Nightingill struck home the winner in the 78th minute.
Enfield threw everything at the Dockers over the last ten minutes but Tilbury put everyone behind the ball with two clearances off the line.
Tilbury are now back in the play off positions. They are equal on points with their bitter rivals, Grays Athletic.
Whilst Grays seem to have lost their way a little, the Dockers go forward into 2012 with relish.
