STAFF AT Unilever in Purfleet manned the picket line on the first of a series of strikes all over the country.
They are planning 11 days of walkouts over changes made to the pension conditions for current employees, which take effect on July 1.
Thousands of members of trade unions Unite, GMB and USDAW, are said to be furious that Unilever plain to abolish a pension scheme, which they claim will lead to pensions being reduced by between 20% and 40%.
Unions have claimed the protests will hit production of leading brands including Persil, PG Tips, Marmite, Pot Noodle, Lynx, Flora and Wall’s ice cream.
YT went down to the picket line to speak the Unite rep, Mike Rooke about the action and the strength of feeling amongst the workforce.
