Thurrock Council’s Housing Team showed their appreciation to over 40 local tenants and residents at a ‘thank you’ event which was held at the Civic Offices, New Road, Grays on Thursday, 26 January.

They were thanked for their hard work and involvement with housing services last year in the following key areas – The Excellence Panel, Sheltered Housing Forum, Yesteryears working group, Seabrooke Rise Community House, Garrison Estate and South Ockendon ‘street reps’

Those invited put in significant collective volunteer hours of about 20,000 during 2011. Even at minimum wage levels the monetary value of this assistance would be in excess of £120,000 – this is time that people are giving freely to improve the areas they live in.

Cllr Andy Smith, Thurrock Council’s portfolio holder for Housing, said: “This is just to say thank you to all of you for your hard work and participation in housing services over the past year.

“A lot of housing activities have gone on in the past year and we couldn’t have done them without your valued input.

“There are more projects coming up this year and we are hopeful that you will all continue to take part in all of them to enable us build a better Thurrock.”

Individual certificates, council paperweights and £10 Morrisons (supermarket) vouchers were given to each of the invited guests. The afternoon ended with a cream tea celebration.
