THURROCK Council is calling on residents across the borough to register as 2012 volunteers to help with the celebrations being organised in the borough.
Working with ngage, the council wants to recruit as many volunteers as possible to help with welcoming the Olympic Torch Relay to Thurrock, Diamond Jubilee, Thurrock Festival and Sunday Carnival Parade and other events happening across the borough.
The Leader of Thurrock Council, Cllr John Kent, said: “2012 is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate everything that is great about the borough and we want to build a lasting legacy of celebration and community spirit.
“We look forward to welcoming the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay and have a great carnival parade lined up to kick off T-Fest Sunday, this year on 3 June. But these events are not possible without the amazing army of volunteers who willingly offer their time and energy – I’m delighted that ngage has agreed to help by managing the recruitment of 300 volunteers.”
Cllr Kent added: “It has been really encouraging to see so many community groups, businesses and organisations volunteer their support and involvement in the preparations and we look forward to working with them all. It’s also just over two weeks since we launched the ‘Thurrock’s 100m Champions’ campaign -to create the longest line of bunting in the world – and we already have 30 schools, community groups and organisations signed up.”
Jacqui Payne, of ngage, said: “The excitement is already building and we are delighted to be involved in what is going to be a fabulous year. We are always on the look out for volunteers but we will need extra help for this year’s Olympic and Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
“We have set an ambitious target of 300 and are confident that lots of people will want to get involved. Whether you want to get involved in marshalling and stewarding or event support and more, all you need to do is contact ngage. We have a wealth of experience around volunteering and there is something for everyone, with support around training and involvement.”
Please contact ngage Volunteer Centre by email at [email protected] or call 01375 389853 to register your interest to be a volunteer.
If you want to help create the longest bunting line, there’s still time to register – all you have to do is register by email to [email protected] where the first 100 to reply will receive a complimentary bunting pack.
