More protection for Balstonia Park pleads councillor

ANTI-SOCIAL behaviour has become the blight of Balstonia Park in the Homesteads and it could get worse warns a senior Conservative councillor.

Cllr Sue MacPherson made the warning at Wednesday nights meeting of the full council.

Cllr MacPherson said: “There has been trouble at the park ever since the council decided to not close it at night.

“The amount of litter is disgraceful and much of it is discarded beer cans. The evenings are slowly becoming lighter and the problem is only going to get worse.

“Only last weekend, a seven-year-old came up to me to complain about the park.”

Addressing the councillor’s complaints, deputy leader, cllr Val Morris-Cook said: “We had to keep the park open as no-one from the community forum was able to lock it each night.

“We will look at this again and get back to you.”
