THIS IS starting to be quite a productive time for the visual arts in Thurrock. We are encouraged by the hard work Ben and Natalie are doing in promoting the Thurrock International Film Festival, the musical artists are being showcased by the work of Rise TV and Smivadee is also spreading his wings.

Meanwhile over at South Essex College, the students are starting to develop their skills.

Recently, Daniel Parker, Will Doyle, Alex Carmichael and Aaliyah Puarr were given a brief by their tutor.

Daniel takes up the story.

“Prevention is part of our course. There is a unit where we are required to work to a brief which you’d need to do in the film industry.

Last year’s 2nd years on this course undertook a 48-hour project where they had to shoot a short film of their choice. However, this year, we were required to create a 3-5 minute short film which would be entered into the Sundance film festival.

“The theme is ‘Story of our time.’ So that’s why we decided to edit it the way we did, with my character on rewind at times.

Have a look. Well done to the team and we invite other film-makers to send material to us.
