Dockers go nap as the promotion push continues

Cheshunt 1 Tilbury 5 (att 131)

Tilbury consolidated 4th position in Ryman North on Tuesday night with a thumping win at Cheshunt with Alex Read again gaining the headlines.

Paul Vaughan made just one change to the squad with Sam West replacing Joe Nightingill in defence.

Cheshunt looked the brighter of the two sides early on and caused the Dockers defence some difficult moments but were kept out be some stout defending. In a quiet opening period for Tilbury Mead’s early cross caused Williamson to bring off a good save. On 23 Alex Read fired from 30 yards and Williamson made a fine save. Tilbury keeper James Marrable was also in the action on the half hour making a good save from a dangerous cross.

Things got better on 31 when Sargent was caught in possession and Alex Read stole in to fire home to give Tilbury the lead against the run of play. Bradley Barnes also went close just before the break before a good Emiel Aiken ball found Alex Read to score a carbon copy of his first. Tilbury came out for the second half and ran the proceedings. Within 10 minutes it was 3. Tom Webb struck the bar with his effort before Alex Read followed up to tap home in to the empty net for his hat trick and his 8th goal in 3 matches. It was also his 19th of the season. On 64 things got even better for Tilbury when Eljay Worrell crossed, fell to Barnes who feed Emiel Aiken to follow up to score. On 78 Tilbury completed the scoring when the Dockers substitute Joe Collins shot under the keeper’s body with his first touch of the ball from a pin point pass from Read. In the final minute Read was looking for his 4th but his effort was well saved. With time running out, Tilbury were dealt a blow when Alex Read had to be taken off with a ligament injury which may keep him out of action for some time. In the 5th minute of added time Josh Hutchinson fired home into the roof of the net to give his side a consolation goal.

After the game, Tilbury Manager Paul Vaughan commented “Delighted without second half performance and scoring five goals again. Paul expressed his concern with the injury to Alex Read and that he was being assessed by the physio. Look forward to Brentwood on Saturday where it will be a tough game”.
