Business breakfast success

OVER a hundred local businesses joined Thurrock Council officers and the Essex Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) at Orsett Hall on Wednesday (21 March) morning.

Following on from last year’s Thurrock Business Conference, Wednesday’s Business Breakfast at Orsett Hall, continued the theme of working together to take advantage of the regeneration opportunities in the borough.

It was chaired by Brett Smallcombe, Director, London Gateway Networks (and member of Business Network International, Thurrock Chapter) and organised jointly by the council and the FSB.

The theme for the event was Local Opportunities and Supply Chains, which was selected after consultation with businesses.

The 150 delegates heard from seven speakers, including council chief executive Graham Farrant, Helen Marini of Westminster Compliance, and Hugo Heij, managing director of SCA Interforest Terminal, London.

Mr Farrant provided an update on major developments in the borough and how they will bring benefits for businesses; other subjects included what has to be done to win contracts with the council; about working together as a consortium to help small firms win big contracts; social media; and apprenticeships.

More Business Breakfasts are planned for later in the year. Along with another Business Conference. Anybody interested in attending should call 01375 652271 or email business@thurrock.gov.uk
