GOALS from Harry Agombar and Bradley Thomas secured Blues’ sixth successive league win as they overcame AFC Sudbury earlier today.

With Kenny Beaney suspended, the returning Harry Agombar replaced him in midfield, whilst Jason Fontaine replaced Joao Carlos, with the Portuguese winger unavailable for selection due to personal reasons.

Blues once again started quickly and it was Agombar receiving a pass from Fontaine who gave the visitors the lead after four minutes. He collected the ball 30 yards from goal, took it past three defenders, before firing low into the bottom left of the goal.

AFC Sudbury’s top scorer James Baker netted the equaliser shortly after with a powerful effort from the angle, his 25th of the season.

In first half stoppage time James Bunn caught the Sudbury centre half James Smith with a late tackle and received a yellow card. After consulting with his assistant, referee Andy Tyne showed a red to Smith for retaliation.

Bradley Thomas headed the winner from a Jake Hall corner midway through the second half as he rose above the defence.

The ten men of Sudbury worked hard as the clocked ticked down, however Blues held firm to secure the three points.

With just five games remaining, Blues have hit top form at just the right moment. During January and February 2005 the club had seven successive league wins, so Hakan Hayrettin’s team will be looking to equal that record next Saturday as they host Chatham Town at Rookery Hill.

Elsewhere in the league today, Harlow Town defied league positions as they won 3-0 away at Enfield Town after going to ten men early in the game. Leiston were held at home 1-1 by play-off chasing Redbridge, however coupled with Enfield’s defeat, they extended their lead at the top to eight points.

Third placed Needham Market won 1-0 at Great Wakering Rovers whilst The Dockers were 2-0 winners at Heybridge Swifts. Brentwood Town kept up their push for a play off position, however with just five games remaining, their chances are looking slim.

There is no change at the foot of the table with the bottom five sides all losing, which leaves Great Wakering Rovers and Ware in the relegation places.
