Election 2012: A fatal hesitation that could cost the Tories the election?

IT COULD BE the decision that will come back to haunt the Conservatives.

It appeared to be a no-brainer: Who could they put up against incumbent Terry Hipsey? The Terry Hipsey who had defected from the Tories to Labour in 2009.

Community champion, local businessmen, civic award winner and vanguard of the Residents against Inappropriate Development (RAID) who campaigned so passionately against the Butts Lane proposals. Terry Piccolo ticked every single box.

But have the Tories looked the gift horse in the mouth?

According to Mr Piccolo, he was interviewed but they could not guarantee him Stanford West. And so he declared himself as an Independent candidate.

It appears that not even last minute talks with senior Tories could persuade him to change his mind.

Whilst in Hardie Park discussing his ideas and policies, we asked Terry to give his version of events.
