HOW many times can you recall as a child sitting in a classroom gazing out of the window, while your teacher’s voice fades into an echoed mono tone drone within the deepest tunnel of your inner ear?

Sounds familiar? From experience of working with young people for over 31 years Sue Ospreay – an award winning local playwright – has targeted subjects such as safe sex, bullying, drug abuse & knife crime.

By means of drama as a stimulus these one act plays are approx. one hour in length and are truthful, hard hitting pieces of dramatic art and physical theatre. Thus, illustrating the dangers that sadly influence our young people’s lives far more often that we would care to admit.

Through trial and error we know that these short sketches have impact and bring home the message in a real and thought provoking manner, encouraging openness and discussion immediately afterwards, which is encouraged by the cast and production crew.

This is being piloted thanks to the support of a forward thinking councillor, Valerie Morris-Cook, who is passionate about the future well-being of the youth of today and has commissioned this in what we hope will be the first of many one act educational plays.

It is completely free of charge for students to see and is educational on two fronts; safe sex and drama techniques.

The first of these one act plays followed by question time will be staged at Palmer’s Performing Arts College on April 16th & 17th at 7pm in the theatre.

The organisers recommend that it is suitable for children 14 years, upwards.
