A taste of Africa comes to Purfleet

It was hosted by the Purfleet Garrison Community Association with support from Thurrock Council’s housing and tenant participation teams.

The aim was to create a neighbourly atmosphere where different cultures could be shared in a fun, and relaxed environment.

It was also a chance to promote the association and the work of the council’s housing team.

Local dance troupe Street Life provided interactive dance demonstrations and gospel singer Bubble in Christ got everyone on their feet with a medley of song, dance and poetry.

Local children enjoyed taking to the floor and singing their favourite pop songs

The event attracted all sections of the community – residents from the Mulberry Drive complex sang along and enjoyed it so much they are looking forward to inviting both Street Life and Bubble in Christ to their complex

Traditional African and English food was cooked by residents and staff – spicy jambalaya, jolloff rice, spicy fishcakes, mini beef roast dinners, Eton Mess and apple crumble were among the goodies on offer.
