Cricket: Joyce re-joices with first win of the season

Belhus 1st 243-3
Chingford 2nd 166-9

Joe Joyce became the first ever Belhus player to score a century in the opening match of a season at Chingford on Saturday. Joyce plundered 18 fours and two sixes in a fine innings of 124 from 117 deliveries. He shared in a huge opening stand of 201 with Martin Guilbert, who was the first dismissed batsman, trapped leg before for 74 runs. Guilbert hit 13 fours and, like Joyce, also hit two sixes. Ryan Wells offered good support in this 40-overs per side fixture with 22 not out.

After the break, Imran Mohammed bagged a personal best for Belhus with 5-14 from seven overs, which included two maidens. Chingford never recovered from Mohammed’s devastating spell, despite a spirited knock of 63 from the home side’s Kashif. Also showing good early season form with the ball for Belhus were Owen Jefferies, 2-28 from eight overs, together with Danny Norris, whose eight over spell conceded just 19 runs and included four maidens and one wicket, while Billy Winter picked up 1-41 as the East London club were restricted to 77 runs shy of the target.
