With over 200 entries from various schools, with 8 minibuses up for grabs, the girls entered the competition to design a minibus to celebrate the 2011 Centennial of the Ford Motor Company in the United Kingdom.
The brief was to draw or paint what the next 100 years will look like for personal transport. The girls designed an eco friendly futuristic vehicle and were absolutely thrilled to get the news that they had won.
Connie said ‘Our teacher, Mrs Pugh, asked us to produce a design for our homework and our winning design was a joint effort of all of our 4 designs’. Seun said ‘We tried to be optimistic when we entered but we definitely didn’t expect to won’. Shunuma and Maria said ‘We were so happy when Miss Brister told us we had won; she called us down to her office to give us the good news’.
Headteacher Miss Brister said ‘We are delighted, our present minibus has been a faithful friend, but has begun to feel its age. We needed a safe, reliable and up to date bus to continue to extend our pupils horizons. My congratulations go to Maria, Connie, Shunuma and Seun for their creativity and hard work in getting all their ideas together in one design’.
Leading Technology teacher Janine Pugh said ‘I couldn’t believe the news when I heard the girls had won the competition. The new minibus will get a lot of use and we will think of the girls every time we use it. I hope that this is a first step for this young design team and that the girls seriously consider a future in design’.
