THE RECENT round of matches at the under sixteen youth indoor six a side competition saw victories for the two undefeated teams, Belhus and Horndon on the Hill, which sets up an interesting finale as both teams meet in the final fixture of the final week (Friday 27th April) to decide which team becomes indoor champions. Belhus stormed to a 99-run win over Thurrock, as Ryan Wells smashed 72 not out in a total of 167 for the loss of five wickets, with assistance coming from Sam Hall and Mathew Lewis who contributed 18 and 17 respectively. For Thurrock, Jordan Warren claimed 2-15 then subsequently scored 13 with James Millsom top scoring with 15. Hall and Jack Martin-Hussey claimed two wickets each for Belhus as Thurrock closed on 68, also for the loss of five wickets.
Meanwhile, Horndon on the Hill had a tough time at the hands of the Orsett B team. Horndon were restricted to 84 for the loss of four wickets due to accurate bowling from Harry Lockyer and Tom Haden, who claimed one wicket each. But Connor Hammond broke the shackles with a fine 39 not out to give Horndon a glimmer of hope. When Orsett replied, Haden and Joe Mitchell hit 17 and 25 respectively which left Orsett requiring just ten runs from the final over with two wickets in hand. But Brad Mason (2-12) bowled a double wicket maiden to keep his team level with Belhus at the top of the table with one match to play.
In the remaining fixture, Orsett A achieved their first win of the event with a strong five-wicket win over Belhus B, who were dismissed for 53. In reply, Orsett reached their target for the loss of just one wicket, through Wayne Gibbon, 17 not out, and Klay Smith, who contributed eleven runs. For Belhus, Joe Downes top scored with 20 while Craig Dalton picked up the sole Orsett wicket to fall. Connor Boreham was the pick of the Orsett bowling with two wickets at a cost of just ten runs.
