A LOCAL charity that takes in second hand goods stopping them filling up precious landfill sites has achieved industry greatness. The Re-Use Partnership in East Tilbury has joined the elite group of reuse organisations across the country by achieving the ARC (Approved Re-Use Centre) status, which is the highest possible accolade in the recycling world.
Experts visited the scheme and undertook an audit taking two days where everything from management and resources to documents and methods of working.
Dave Lawrence, Operations Manager at TRUP said ‘They looked at everything, and I mean everything! At one point I thought they might want to check the type of loo paper we use, that was how detailed the audit was!’ He went on to say, ‘At the end of the 2 days we got the big tick we were after. Reusing items saves the energy associated with the production of a new one, having a massive impact on CO2 emissions, so it’s good to know we’re doing the best we can. It’s given myself and our dedicated team a big lift, knowing that we are 1 of only 60 other ARC’s in the country.’
TRUP accepts various items for reuse including, paint, furniture, white goods, and even bikes all from its location on the former Bata Shoe Factory in East Tilbury. With a large showroom where the choice and selection means you never know what gems you might find – and all at reasonable prices.
