C2C continue to top punctuality charts

Train punctuality improved last month, with more than 93% of services arriving on time.

The better figures came despite the East Coast company achieving a trains-on-time figure of only 84.3%.

This was due to events outside the company’s control, including 10 suicides, other companies’ broken-down trains and an overhead power line problem, said Network Rail.

In total, 93.3% of trains ran on time in the period April 1 to April 28, compared with 92.9% in the same period last year.

The best-performing company last month was the London to Tilbury and Southend operator c2c, which ran 97.9% of trains on time.

Apart from East Coast, the only companies that did not achieve at least 90% punctuality in April 2012 were West Coast operator Virgin Trains (87.3%) and CrossCountry (89.9%).
