Fused: The Thurrock Choral Festival

Royal Opera House in Thurrock celebrates the diverse vocal talents of Thurrock on Sunday 27 May

Royal Opera House in Thurrock is delighted to announce Fused, the Thurrock Choral Festival on Sunday 27 May at the Tilbury Riverside Arts Activity Centre and the London Cruise Terminal at Tilbury.

Building on the success of the Thurrock Community Chorus which now has over 80 members, Fused: the Thurrock Choral Festival brings together and showcases the many different singing groups and musical styles from across Thurrock and offers an opportunity for choirs, groups and individuals to develop their vocal performance and perform together.

Free vocal workshops will take place throughout the day at the Tilbury Riverside Arts Activity Centre. In the morning from 10.30am, anyone interested in singing is welcome to take part in workshops and masterclasses to improve their vocal ability or help them discover a hidden talent. These activities will be led by music industry professionals and performers including Dominic Peckham who will run a workshop on performance skills. Dominic is regarded as one of the UK’s finest ambassadors of choral music, both in performance and through his critically acclaimed educational work with Music Teacher Magazine calling him “The Jamie Oliver of singing”.

Thurrock Community Chorus Master Jeremy Haneman will run an Introduction to Reading Music session and vocal animateur, Jacek Ludwig Scarso will run workshops with an emphasis on the voice and rhythm using games and singing.

Young people aged 12-25 years with a passion for using their voices can attend an afternoon of beatboxing, vocal work, harmonizing, world music and essential vocal and performance skills. Working with Dominic Peckham, the young singers will fuse together styles and tempos to create a unique mash-up performance. The afternoon workshop begins at 1.30pm.

An evening concert at the London Cruise Terminal at Tilbury brings together the young people to perform alongside the many groups from Thurrock taking part including the Thurrock Community Chorus, Thurrock Male Voice Choir, Thurrock Choral Society, Mosaic and Golden Voices. In a diverse programme, the audience can expect to hear opera, swing, jazz, show tunes, pop and rock as Royal Opera House in Thurrock celebrates the marvellous multitude of music made in Thurrock. The concert begins at 6.30pm.

Tickets for the concert will be on sale from the Thameside Theatre Box Office on 0845 300 5264. Tickets are priced at £5 (£3 concessions).
