Major world speedway event at Hammers this Sunday

THE Lakeside Hammers are proud to be staging a major FIM event at their Arena-Essex Raceway this Sunday, 27th May, when the FIM Speedway World Under 21 Team Cup Semi Final takes place.

This Semi Final will be contested by four Countries comprising of five riders in each team and will be raced over 25 heats. The four Countries taking part are: – Australia, the Czech Republic, Denmark and Great Britain with only the winners guaranteed a place in the Final, which takes place in Poland at the beginning of September.

The Poles are seeded straight into the Final along with the winners from this Semi Final and the other Semi Final, which is scheduled to take place in Abensberg, Germany next Monday. The remaining place in the Final will go to the highest second placed scorers from the two Semi Finals.

The Great Britain team will comprise of:-

Lakeside Hammers sensation Richie Worrall, who has put in some superb performances since joining the Hammers Elite League side prior to the start of this season. Richie also competes for Newcastle in the Premier League and Stoke in the National League.

Steve Worrall, who is Richie’s twin brother, who also competes for Newcastle in the Premier League plus Scunthorpe in the National League.

Joe Haines, who is the current British Under 21 Champion having also won that title in 2010 when the Final was staged at the Arena Essex Raceway. He competes for Sheffield in the Premier League.

Kyle Howarth, who is a member of Poole’s Elite League squad but also rides for Workington in the Premier League. He gained valuable experience around the Arena Essex Raceway earlier this season when he rode for the Hammers in their Good Friday clash against Eastbourne and then rode for Poole in the Elite League match at the Essex based Raceway.

Kyle Newman, who rides for Peterborough in the Elite League along with Somerset in the Premier League.

Australia have named in their team Darcy Ward (Poole), Sam Masters (Poole and Somerset), Nick Morris (Swindon), Dakota North (Birmingham and Ipswich ) and Alex Davies (Somerset).

Denmark have named Michael Jepsen Jensen (Peterborough), Lasse Bjerre (Peterborough), Thomas Jorgensen (Wolverhampton and Scunthorpe), Mikkel B Jensen (Swindon in 2011) and Mikkel Michelsen.

The Czech Republic team is Vaclav Milik, Eduard Krcmar, Jan Holub, Zdenek Holub and Ondrej Veverka.

The gates at the Arena Essex Raceway will open on Sunday at 2.30pm with the parade of riders scheduled for 4pm and the first of the 25 races at 4.15pm. There are large free car parking areas at the Raceway

The Lakeside Hammers are pleased to advise fans that normal Hammers Elite League prices for this FIM meeting will apply. These are: Adults – £17, Senior Citizens, Students and Disabled – £14, Unemployed and Children aged 17 and 18 – £12 and children aged 6 to 16 inclusive – £3. Children under 6 will be admitted free of change provided they are accompanied by a paying adult. Proof of age or status will be asked for at the pay booths. Hammers Season Ticket holders are reminded that their Season Tickets will not be valid for this meeting.
