Fun and games at Linford

IT was fun and games at Linford on Friday (1 June) when locals, young and older, celebrated new play equipment at the park.

Local councillors, the local community forum ― which raised the money ― and the new Environment portfolio holder were there to join in.

Bob and Marian Kuyper from the forum explained Veolia Mardyke Trust had contributed £25,000 for the new equipment and the forum itself topped up with the last £1,600 needed.

The equipment had been vandalised beyond repair two years ago and Thurrock Council helped the WELCOM community forum consult with local young people about what they wanted to see replace it.

Portfolio holder Cllr Victoria Holloway was at Linford recreation Ground with East Tilbury members Barry Palmer and John Purkiss who said the new equipment was getting a lot of use from the local young people.

Cllr Holloway said: “It’s great to see how a community can come together to provide this sort of play equipment for its young people and I’d like to congratulate everyone involved in creating a place to have fun.”
