Inspiring images of Olympics at St Joseph’s

Olympic fever is sprinting through the corridors of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Stanford-le-Hope, as teachers and pupils build up to welcoming the Olympic Torch to Thurrock.

Inspiring images are appearing on walls throughout the school after pupils were asked to create artwork to show their idea of an Olympic athlete. The life-size paintings are not necessarily what would first spring to mind with characters ranging from a superstar Lego Robert and a diving diva.

Headteacher Stephanie Lakin explained: “Using the Olympics as a theme we asked the children to think about being the very best they possibly could at something. These posters are the result of their inspirations and imaginations.

“As a school we are keen to enjoy and celebrate the Olympics coming to Britain and in particular the torch coming to Thurrock. It really is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

The art project has proved so popular that wall space has run out in the school hall and the Inspiring Olympic Stars are now appearing in corridors around the school.

And according to St Joseph’s how many gold medals is Britain going to win in the Olympics? “All of them,” was the overwhelming cry!
