Thurrock focuses on care with Carers Week

THE ANNUAL Carers’ Week will start on Monday, 18 June, and Thurrock’s Carers Centre in Grays will be marking the week with a number of events.

The Cromwell Road centre will be hosting sessions on information, advice and support; an Outreach Day Care afternoons for both carers and cared for with and without music; a dementia awareness session; “Tea at the Ritz”; music hall entertainment, Tai Chi; and arts and crafts.

Cllr Barbara Rice, Thurrock Council’s cabinet member for adult social care, said: “Many carers in Thurrock and across the country, are affected by the lack of understanding about what they do – some don’t even recognise themselves as carers.

“This has a real and negative impact on their health, finances, working and social life, and general well-being.

“Carers Week highlights the hidden work done by families and friends and it also gives us a chance to publicise the superb work done by our Carers’ Centre so people know there is support out there.

“I would urge people who care for relatives or friends – whether they consider themselves carers or not – to pop along to the centre and find out what help may be available for them.”
