PLANS for a £600 million gas-fired power station in the Stanford/Corringham area are under threat as the recession continues to hammer the east of the borough.
Last year, Intergen were very hopeful that plans for a 900 mega-watt station on the London Gateway site were in full flow but a change in subsidy arrangements has seen hopes dashed.
When energy minister, Charles Hendry made the announcement in May of last year (2011), there were hopes for local jobs and much needed apprenticeships.
Intergen are at present looking for a cash injection from the banks and weighing up other options.
