A night at the opera with St Clere’s

TWO-TERMS in the making, the year 8 St Clere’s students produced a fascinating and thought-provoking opera.

The ensemble included actors, actresses, musicians, technicians and a lot of backstage contributors to produce a play on the subject of persecution.

St Clere’s School have been working in conjunction with the Royal Opera House in order to create our own ‘School Opera’. The performance has been written, produced, directed and composed by the pupils.

The Royal Opera House Education Team encourages pupils to discover and develop new skills through exploring Opera as an art form, including the production, craft and technical elements of making theatre. This was a fantastic opportunity for pupils in 8Y1 to try out new skills and to work as part of a cast in order to put on a performance.

The performance was outstanding and showcased many talents within the class. It was evident that an enormous amount of hard work had been applied by the pupils and they should be extremely proud of their efforts. This event was hugely successful and hopefully was the start of many Opera’s to come at St Clere’s.

At the end of the performance, all the students received a certificate of merit.
