THE MORNING of Friday 27 July will not be any ordinary morning. At 8.12AM on the first day of London 2012, Turner Prize-winning artist and musician Martin Creed will be performing ‘Work No. 1197’ in which bells all over the country will ring as quickly as possible for three minutes.
By ringing any kind of bell – hand bell, church bell, bicycle bell, door bell and even alarm clocks,– you will be part of the Creed’s performance in welcoming the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The BBC will be broadcasting to a live audience of over 10 million people across the UK on TV, radio and online so don’t forget to set the time in your diaries and get ready to ring for the nation!
Cllr Lynn Worrall, Portfolio Holder for Transformation and Community at Thurrock Council said “Bells have traditionally been rung to signify events and important occasions so what could be bigger than all Thurrock making some noise on Friday morning and welcoming people from all over the world to the Olympic and Paralympic Games!”
You need to have registered to ring a bell, which is dead easy and can be done from visiting the website: www.AllTheBells.com and you can also send your clip to [email protected]
Essex Residents can easily join in by downloading the free ringtone from www.allthebells.com.
