Football: Fleet show clean pair of heels to Blackburn Rovers

Thurrock 2 v 1 Blackburn Rovers XI

Another entertaining performance from Mark Stimson’s young boys as they quietly prepare for the coming Ryman Premier League season. The facts may read that Thurrock were fortunate to get the win but their overall performance justified the success.

Both Thurrock keepers David Hughes first half and Adam Seal second half had to be on top form to keep out a strong Blackburn attack. It was the visitors that opened the scoring in the 13th minute when they capitalised on defensive error that allowed Blackburn’s Buress to score.

Thurrock responded well and always threatened the Blackburn keeper forcing some good saves, but in the 35th minute he was beaten by his own defender, Wassi as his misdirected header ended up in the back of the net.

Plenty of subsitiutions by both managers at half time and and Thurrock took the advantage in the 69th minute when striker Issouff fired in a fine winning goal from the edge of the box.
