Surestart kids receive boost from Lakeside

NINE children from SURESTART ‘Where Kids Come First’ based in Ockendon visited Waterstone’s in Lakeside last week armed with £500 to spend on books. The donation, from Lakeside’s Heart of the Community fund, was awarded to SURESTART ‘Where Kids Come First’ to help with the development and education of local children, primarily before they begin school.

The vast number of new books, chosen by the children themselves, will be used extensively at SURESTART ‘Where Kids Come First’ by the 0-2 and 2-12 year groups.

Lucy Pollock, Manager of SURESTART ‘Where Kids Come First’ said, “We provide children with opportunities to learn through play in a stimulating and exciting setting. In order to continue to do so, we need the right tools and equipment. This phenomenal amount of new books will completely transform our setting. Thank you, Lakeside.”

Sophie Scott, Marketing Manager at Lakeside, comments: “Thousands of families visit Lakeside every year so children’s activities are always a big focus for us. We were delighted to be able to support the local SURESTART ‘Where Kids Come First’ through our Heart of the Community fund and hope the kids enjoy their new reading challenges!”

Lakeside’s Heart of the Community campaign supports two local causes every month with £500 donations. Members of the community are invited to nominate worthy charities and local groups that could benefit from a donation.
