Cricket: Hall beat Harris in finals

Junior Final

Gable Hall 57-0 (8 overs) Beat Harris Academy 56 All out by 10 wickets.

The Gable Hall Junior cricket team were very successful in their quest to retain the Thurrock District cup last Tuesday as they beat Harris Academy convincingly.

Gable Hall bowled first, Nathaniel Waller and Jack Plom bowled well at the start before the introduction of William Slaughter and Bobby Samwell. William collected 5 Harris wickets and Bobby 3 as Harris totalled a meager 56 runs.

William Slaughter and Luke Filsell opened the batting for Gable Hall, and knocked off the runs in double quick time (8 overs) without losing a wicket. The team looked like a very polished unit and deserved to be crowned district champions.

Team: Owen Moore, William Slaughter, Jamie Hynd, Jack Plom, Alfie Thompson, William Pearn, Bobby Samwell, George Howard, Riley Holt, Luke Filsell, Bethany Harford and Nathaniel Waller.

  1. Congratulations and what a great photo! School boys enjoying success with their team mates, smiles on their faces having had some fun playing cricket…our national summer sport!

Alas you won’t see such pictures, from the ‘Outstanding’ schools in Thurrock!

The Ockendon Academy doesn’t even have a sports day, even in Olympic year! William Edwards focus year round on individuals and the elitist sport of athletics! And as for the Chafford Hundred Campus…cricket isn’t really the ‘Harris’ way! Tut, tut and I thought every child matters!

  2. E.C.M,

Harris Chafford Hundred does have a sports day, and this was held at Crystal Palace with all of the other schools in Harris. The entire school attended this event, even the staff who also took part.

  3. RobF4,

I didn’t say Harris do not have a Sports Day! In fact I saw the recent blog on Yourthurrock that showed the school event at Blackshots! Pity there was very few peers to watch!

Sad that as exam results have risen, sporting prowess, success and participation at the school, have all demised!
