West Tilbury WI: August report

West Tilbury WI August 2012

THE SPEAKER for August meeting at West Tilbury WI was the celebrated author of Historical Novels, Elizabeth Lord. She told members how she had always turned everything into a story when she heard or saw something of interest.

Even as a child she convinced her playmates that she had come to England from Canada and spun a tale that had them enthralled in her adventures. Born in the East End many of her books are set in this area and are selling in many countries. Her latest best selling novel is The Crystal Chandelier.

Thank you letters were received from the visiting institute members that attended the West Tilbury birthday party last month.

The Resolution on Midwives was agreed and adopted by the NFWI to put before the Government. The recent TV drama series has highlighted how our midwives were of great benefit to women in their homes and the importance of their work then and now.

Names were taken for tickets to the WI AGM meeting in October at Blackshots Civic Hall.

Competition: A Favourite Book, won by Joy Ridgewell.

Next meeting: At West Tilbury Village Hall on September 4th 2012 at 7pm to 9-30pm

Speaker: Sue Sincock ‘People and Places in the City,’

Visitors are welcome.
