Summer news from Gable Hall

Dance Festival

Mariah Collins a Year 8 student has been competing for the last four weeks at the Essex Summer Dance Festival 2012 at St Edwards School in Romford. Mariah enjoyed enormous success and won medals in eleven categories including Gold Modern, Gold Acrobatic Duet, Silver Ballet to name but a few. Mariah was also presented with trophies for Cabaret 3 and 4 part, Classical 3 part, Highest Lyrical mark, Highest Acrobatic mark, Highest Modern mark, Highest own arrangement mark and the Highest Duet Mark. Mariah works very hard at her dancing and is very talented. Good luck with future competitions.

Rehearsal for Mock Interview Day

On Tuesday 26th June Year 10 were involved in a day preparing for the mock interviews which take place on 24th October and for subsequent job applications. The day began with a presentation from Steve Cox, Assistant Chief Executive at Thurrock Council, talking about the opportunities coming to Thurrock. He was followed by Andy Barrow, international wheelchair rugby player, who will be competing in the 2012 Paralympics. The day continued with different  workshops run by staff from: Proctor and Gamble, Lloyds Bank; Standard Chartered Bank; Port of Tilbury; Creating Excellence; Mid Essex PCT , and Gable Hall English and Drama Departments. Pupils were shown how to put together a CV, Personal Statement, write a letter and practise good interview techniques. The feedback from the day was very positive. Workshop staff relayed how the pupils had made the day enjoyable and successful by their participation and enthusiasm. Thanks  to George Downes, Courtney Downey, Eleanor Wyatt and Natasha Parmenter, who worked extremely hard alongside Miss Fitzpatrick and Mrs Twinn preparing, cooking and serving an excellent lunch.
