IT SHOULD be A* day rather than D day tomorrow as the Thurrock senior schools announce their GCSE results.
The progess over the last few years has been phenomenal and many anticipate that the progress will continue.
Among the big questions are:
Will Chafford Hundred retain their No 1 status after an amazing 92% last year?
Will the commitment to academic excellence at Grays Convent be rewarded with a mark above 70%.
Can Gable Hall bounce back after a quiet year last year?
Can William Edwards and St Clere’s possibly retain a mark above 70?.
Will Hassenbrook Academy counter Ofsted and produce excellent results?
Can Ockendon Academy again break through the 50% barrier after getting 51% last year. Four years ago, their results stood at 29%.
YT will be filming news items at all of the senior schools and they plus all the results will be up on the site by tomorrow afternoon.

How incrediably interesting! Exams, results, qualifications, targets and league tables…what about education????!!!
As soon as I started to read the top of the article I knew that the first comment would be from E.C.M.
The schools yes are interested in targets and league tables, its what drives them.
However, the students don’t care about this, I for one hope our students do well, if they get good grades its due to their hard work, lets praise them for this.
God forbid Rob, I’m not becoming predictable am I?!
‘Good grades’…what does that matter? ” The great educational lie…do well at school and get a good job”! (Gilbert 2006)
Social skills is what they need for starters! Research suggests NEETs can’t get jobs primarily because they have no manners etc! ‘Qualified gits’ as opposed to ‘Educated citizens’!
“Due to their hard work”…are you mad? What about the teachers? They make the real difference whether by hook or crook!
This is where its all gone wrong! No longer is the onus primarily on the students to achieve! They are all ‘spoon fed’ and taught to the test…no wonder so many drop out of FE when they need to be independent learners and work hard!
I rest my case m’Lord! No further questions!
Yep Very predictable, where there is education locally I often see you name.
You have very strong opinions with regards to education, ever thought about being a school Governor.
Agree the teachers perform a fantastic job!
There are occasions when parents dump children on the schools, however I feel manners need to start at home.
Hey Rob,
Who said I wasn’t a school Governor?
I agree with your sentiments regarding parents and the home…but kids having kids, a culture where education isn’t valued and Thurrock being the ‘worst’ place to live in the country (recent national survey), how can the trend be reversed?
