Tilbury men caged over rhino thefts from museum

TWO TILBURY  men have been jailed after admitting stealing a rhinoceros head from a Surrey museum.

Jamie Channon, 34, of Melba Gardens and Tony Moore, 30, of Ottowa Road, Tilbury,  pleaded guilty to conspiracy to burgle reports the BBC.

The pair were identified after the theft from Haslemere Educational Museum in May 2011 featured on BBC1’s Crimewatch last September.

Channon was jailed for three years and Moore for two at Guildford Crown Court.

The rhinoceros head was the only item stolen.

The pair also admitted conspiracy to burgle 13 supermarkets in Kent, Sussex, Surrey and Hertfordshire, in which more than £60,000 worth of cigarettes were stolen.

Channon was jailed for four years and Moore for three years for the supermarket thefts.
