Fine for South Ockendon pub over noise breach

THE LICENSEE of Jack O Lantern Pub, South Ockendon, has been fined £2,000 for breaching a noise abatement notice.

Peter Thacker, licensee of the pub in Daiglen Drive, pleaded guilty to the breach which took place in February this year.

On Monday, 17 September Basildon Magistrates heard that a noise abatement notice was served on Mr Thacker in November 2011 after loud music was heard coming from the pub disturbing residents.

A similar incident happened in February and was witnessed by Environmental Protection Officers. Mr Thacker pleaded guilty by post.

Cllr Angie Gaywood, Thurrock Council’s portfolio holder for Public Protection said: “This prosecution demonstrates that Thurrock Council will not tolerate noise nuisance and this case should serve as a reminder to businesses to act responsibly in the community and respect their neighbours.”

Residents are reminded that officers may be contacted on the out of hours noise service on Friday and Saturday nights between 21.00hrs and 03.00hrs on 07788 200200, and outside of those hours, complaints can be made to the Environmental Protection Team by calling 01375 652955.
