Could you be Thurrock Young Musician of the Year 2012!

THE start of another academic year once again signals the search to find Thurrock’s Young Musician of the Year for 2012. This key event in the annual programme of the newly established Thurrock Music Education Hub, sees Thurrock Music Services, the Royal Opera House, the Rotary Club of the Mar Dyke Valley and the Thameside Theatre Grays working in partnership to offer a unique opportunity to the young musicians of Thurrock.

Entrants must be between the ages of 11 and 18 years. In addition, entrants must either be a resident of Thurrock, attend a School in Thurrock, regularly attend at least one Instrumental Ensemble in Thurrock or receive their music tuition through Thurrock Music Services.

A series of Master Classes will allow music students to work with some of the top professional musicians in the country to further develop their musical skills and talents. A finalist will be selected by each Master Class Leader, provided by the Royal Opera House, to perform at the Thameside Theatre on Monday 19 November 2012 at 7pm in the Grand Finals, where one performer will be awarded the coveted title of Thurrock Young Musician of the Year 2012.

The overall winner receives a trophy and the opportunity to guest perform at various key events in Thurrock during the next year.

Closing date for all entries is Friday 19th October 2012. Richard Brittain, Head of Thurrock Music Services said, “Every year we are highly impressed by the standards of performance and musicianship skills demonstrated by participants in the Thurrock Young Musician of the Year competition. We feel sure that this year will be no exception.

The competition provides a wonderful opportunity to further develop the partnership between Thurrock Music Services, the Royal Opera House, Thameside Theatre and the Rotary Club of Mardyke Valley.”
