A grand idea as three council staff walk in the moonlight

A CANCER charity was boosted by £1,000 thanks to three Thurrock Council workers.

The trio, Maxine Harbourne (a student social worker), Paula Gates (a shared care co-ordinator), and Joanne Page (practice manager) are all based at the Culver Centre in South Ockendon, and work in the council’s social services team for disabled children.

They took part in the Shine Walk night-time half marathon through the streets of London at the end of September and raised £1,000 for Cancer Research UK between them.

The event started at Battersea power station at 8pm and was a 13.1 mile walk – or run – around the dark streets of south London. Next year the trio are aiming to take part in the full marathon event.
