AROUND 30 people attended the latest Thurrock Council fostering open evening at the Park Inn hotel, North Stifford, on Wednesday (10 October).

They were joined by cabinet member for children, Cllr Oliver Gerrish, at the event aimed at giving people a chance to find out more about the council’s fostering service.

Cllr Gerrish said: “It great to meet so many potential foster carers as well as some of our existing carers.

“The fostering service and the carers do a tremendous job supporting some of our most vulnerable people at the most vulnerable times in their lives.”

He added: “We have 256 looked-after children in Thurrock but just 98 households that foster so we need more people to come forward as potential carers.

“This event, and the ones which will follow give a great insight into what it’s like being a foster carer and shows there is great support from the council and groups run by foster carers.”
