THURROCK 3rd 1 v 7 SAFFRON WALDEN 5th
THURROCK were under heavy pressure from the first whistle and went behind after 10 minutes when a player drove down the left wing before crossing for an unmarked forward to flick the ball into the net.
Within minutes a shot from the edge of the D was saved by keeper Andy Gaut but the rebound fell favourably for the Saffron Walden attacker to score from close range.
The visitors maintained their pressure and left Thurrock’s defenders chasing shadows as they added another two goals by half time. In the second half the strong Saffron Walden side continued to force Thurrock backwards with defenders Ethan Pinion and Dave Leeks making some excellent tackles to hold them at bay.
However, despite their efforts and a string of acrobatic saves from Gaut, they added four more goals. In the last minute Thurrock Michael Fleming collected the ball on the Thurrock 25 metre line and ran through before passing to Josh Bridges who dribbled into the Saffron Walden D only to be fouled in the act of shooting.
Thurrock were awarded a penalty corner which went to Michael Fleming whose pin-point shot went between the keeper and defender to give Thurrock some reward for their efforts.
