A CLOSE examination of the response repairs work carried out by Morrison Facilities Management for Thurrock Council has shown there are 3,000 outstanding jobs.
Now two local companies are being brought in to deal with the backlog.
Cllr Val Morris-Cook, portfolio holder for Housing, said on Tuesday (20 November): “Because we have been able to rigorously prove the number of outstanding jobs with Morrison is so high, we are now able to take them from this contractor and pass them to two local contractors – Fleetwood and Total Maintenance.”
She added: “I’m delighted to say we’ve been in discussion with the two local contractors for a couple of weeks now and have been persuaded they are able to deliver this work.
“Fleetwood are employing ten more operatives and Total Maintenance a further five to deliver these repairs.
“Not only is this good news for tenants in that their repairs are going to be sorted out soon, but that’s 15 extra jobs locally too.”
“The two companies are contacting tenants this week to explain how they are now taking the work and to book new appointments.”
Cllr Morris-Cook added: “Since Morrison have been bought by Mears plc, we are talking with the new owners about finding a new way forward with our repairs contractor.”
A spokesperson for Mears Group said:
“Mears is confident that it can add support to the Morrison team, as it continues work to deliver the best possible service for tenants going forward.”

No surprises there then!
And the big question is, why was this not picked up sooner by the portfolio holder or anyone else within TBC, surely these contracts are checked throughout their tenure to ensure that things are happening???
Lambo, Val has been busy doing other more important things recently, but now the electorate have voted she can return to her council work!!
magic1980 don’t forget she has 2 jobs still, so you won’t get 100% out of her
magic1890 I take it that your comment was very much tongue in cheek 🙂
Jesus! Val should get a job working as a spin doctor with the amount of spin she has put on her failure to make sure housing repairs are carried out quickly. She could have got other contracters in much earlier but she has failed to mention this but would rather focus on the fact that (wait for it!) 15 jobs have been created and they all supposedly live in Thurrock!
Doesn’t Morrisons sub contract out their work to at least one of these firms anyway?
So the same company doing the same repairs!
Correct me if I am wrong.
Thought I was the only one who picked up on that Bernard about the 15 new jobs all for Thurrock residents! It’s comments like that that cements the idea that these “Portfolio” holders think their electorate are complete idiots.
Did anybody see the large advert for the new Port at Shell Haven where recruitment days will be held in Basildon Southend, Brentwood? What none in Thurrock for the thousands of jobs for local residents which again our friends in the council tell us will be available?
