Thurrock MP boycotted minister at violence against women launch.

THURROCK MP Jackie Doyle-Price boycotted the visit of a Tory minister over an on-going row over expenses.

Equalities Minister Helen Grant was the guest speaker at the launch of Thurrock Council’s Violence against Women strategy.

The Maidstone MP has had to defend her situation where she claims maximum expenses for a second home in London despite living 19 miles away in Reigate, Surrey.

She is permitted to do so under expenses rules as her constituency is deemed far enough away from Westminster.

Her own constituency association chair has called her situation: “understandable and acceptable.”

Lawyer, Mrs Grant has detailed her defence on the front page of her website helengrant.org.

But that hasn’t stopped 132 signatories to a petition on gopetition.com calling for her resignation.

Speaking to the Thurrock Gazette, Ms Doyle-Price said she did not want to be associated with this type of behaviour.
