Blaze at recycling plant at Tilbury docks

1715 hrs

FIRE CREWS are fighting a large blaze at a paper recycling plant.

Eight crews are tackling the blaze.

Crews report that the plant is 40 percent alight. Crews are wearing breathing apparatus and are using two main jets to tackle the fire.

Updates to follow.

1930 hrs: The fire is in a single storey industrial building, the property measures approximately 30 x 60 metres. Crews report that the building contains compressed paper bales.

The property is 100 percent smoke logged. C

Crews are tackling the blaze using two main jets.Update 18:55hrs: Crews are continuing to tackle the fire using the aerial ladder platform. The building remains smoke logged.

Update 22:00hrs: Incident Commander-Divisional Officer Jon Payne reports: The fire is deep seated within the building. Crews are using two main jets and a ground monitor to extinguish the fire.

Update 23:45hrs: Crews remain at the incident and are using two ground monitors. Five fire appliances remain at the incident.

Update 14:30hrs: Crews and three fire appliances remain at the scene damping down.
