Traffic chaos after crane collapse on A13 at Manorway junction

1430 hrs

DRIVERS attempting to do their christmas shopping were thwarted on Sunday afternoon after the A13 at the Maorway junction was blocked both ways.

YT understands that the part of the construction work had fallen onto the roadway.

Queueing traffic, the main carriageway is closed, with traffic being routed around the junction and back on again, and long delays on A13 Stanford-Le-Hope Bypass in both directions in Stanford-le-Hope at the A1013 junction, because of an incident in the roadworks area.

1445 hrs: Diversion in operation – short diversion via the roundabout above. In the roadworks area. Travel time is (both ways) up to 50 minutes.

1505 hrs Travel time is (both ways) nearly 60 minutes. Tailbacks for three miles. Congestion to Orsett Cock and to Five Bells Interchange.

A statement from the traffic management team in charge of the roadworks.

Dear road user,

We can confirm that a piling rig that was carrying out work on the A13 A1014
Junction has been involved in an incident on site.

There were no injuries to any personnel or road users in the incident.

The A13 in both directions and the A1014 north bridge has been shut due to the
incident and will be re-opened as soon as possible. The Safety of all concerned
and any road users is paramount and we are working to re-open the A13 and North
bridge as soon as possible.

Email alerts will also be sent to subscribers to keep road users up to date as
soon as possible.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you and will update you
as soon as more information becomes available.

A13 Essex – Queueing traffic earlier and the main carriageway has re-opened on A13 in both directions at Stanford-le-Hope, because of stuck crane in the road earlier.
