Thurrock Council is updating its information technology (IT) systems which will affect the way emails are stored.
By using Cloud technology, emails and the details in them will be stored via the internet on third party servers to improve the council’s access to information and create efficiencies in the way it works.
This is also expected to deliver savings as part of the council’s transformation agenda.
Thurrock is also trialling the use of Google Apps for Business as one of the options to improve the ability for staff to work remotely.
The council will not be using personal information for any different purposes, the only change will be that some personal details are stored securely off-site at servers managed by Google.
