Football: Third win on the bounce for the Dockers

TILBURY earned there third consecutive win, over a hard-working Redbridge side.

With Redbridge suffering some heavy defeats of late, the home side started well looking to bounce back.

On a heavy pitch Tilbury made two changes for New Years Day win over Chatham.

James Marrable and Jack Carlile returned in place of Paul King and Ryan Auger. After five minutes Emiel Aiken went close when he miss hit a shot in front of goal from a Sam Cutler cross. Redbridge took a surprise lead in the eleventh minute when a ball was played in between the Tilbury defence and Jacob Cleaver fired low into the net.

On 19 Redbridge should have gone further in front when Cleaver lobbed from 20 yards and went just passed the post. Tilbury were back on level terms on 20 when a good Tony Jacobs run down the right, crossed to Sam Cutler who chipped home. Within 5 minutes the Dockers took the lead. With the ball bouncing around the Redbridge penalty area, the ball eventually fell nicely to Tom Wraight who slotted home through bodies. Tilbury had a succession of corners keeping Dean Neil busy in the home goal. On the half hour an Aaron Waters corner found Aiken, whose effort was cleared off the line.

Just before the break Tilbury lost the services of scorer Tom Wraight to injury and was replaced by fully fit Danny Francis. Early in the second half Jimmy Cook’s rasping drive flew just over the top. Tilbury continued to dominate and Waters volley just wide before captain Joe Nightingill chipped into the arms of Neil.

Redbridge had a close effort on 76 when Danny Hayes fired just over, before Cutler again went close for the Dockers when he fired just over. On 81 Danny Francis was brought down in the box and Aaron Waters scored his 3rd goal in 2 coolly shooting to the keepers right. In the final 9 minutes Tilbury created chances with Carlile having a good move well saved and Francis final minute volley being tipped over by Neil.

The result leaves Tilbury in 8th place, but closer to a play off berth. Tilbury are at home next Saturday when they welcome Wroxham to Chadfields 3.00pm kick off.
