Cruel sick thieves rob 90-year-old woman of her life savings.

DETECTIVE have appealed for information after the “despicable” theft of life savings from a woman aged in her 90s.

Two men called at the woman’s home in Aveley and pushed their way inside when she opened the door.

While one of the men distracted her by talking to her the second man searched rooms and took a four-figure sum in cash. The two men were last seen running off along the road.

The incident happened at the woman’s home in the Nare Road area at about 6pm on Saturday January 19.

DS Jim Adams of Grays CID: “This was an absolutely despicable crime and these two thieves have preyed on a frail and vulnerable elderly woman to take all her savings.

“We will be doing everything we can to find these two men and bring them to justice and we would appeal to anyone with information to contact us urgently. We especially want to hear from anyone who saw these two thieves loitering in the area before going to the woman’s home or from anyone who saw them running away. If you recognise these men from their descriptions please get in touch with us. We also want to hear from anyone in the area who might have had any cold callers knocking on their doors.”

One of the men was white, aged 30-35, about 5ft 8in tall, of stocky build and with a plump face. He had a dark-coloured scarf covering his face and was wearing a dark three-quarter length coat. The second man was also white, older than the other suspect and has a thinner face. He was also wearing a dark coat. Anyone with information should contact DS Adams or his colleagues at Grays CID on 101 or call Crime stoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
